German Tourist Dies After Egypt Snake Bite: Police

Berlin:A German tourist died after he was bitten by a snake that crawled into his pants while watching a show during a family holiday in Egypt, German police said Monday.
The 57-year-old man was watching the snake-charming show at a hotel in the popular Red Sea beach resort of Hurghada in early April.
Police in the southern state of Bavaria said two reptiles involved in the incident, thought to be cobras, were wrapped around the necks of spectators.
“The ‘snake charmer’ then allowed one of the snakes to crawl into the German man’s trousers” and the snake bit him on the leg, they said in the statement.
The victim showed “clear signs of poisoning” and had to be resuscitated before being taken to hospital, but was later pronounced dead.
The man, whose name was not mentioned in the statement, came from the Unterallgaeu region of Bavaria and was on holiday with two relatives.
German police and prosecutors are investigating his death and are awaiting the results of toxicology testing.
Egyptian officials contacted by AFP said they were not aware of the incident.
