Man swept from rocks drowns at popular WA tourist spot

A man has drowned after being dragged onto rocks at a popular beach in Western Australia’s south-west.
Police said they were called to Indijup Natural Spa in Yallingup at around 12.20pm on Monday to reports that a person had been dragged into the water.
“Unfortunately the man, aged in his 20s, was unresponsive and could not be revived,” a police spokesman said.
“His death is not suspicious”
Indijup Natural Spa is a popular tourist attraction where people often take photos of the ocean while standing on the rocks.
Acting South West Inspector Andy Elliott told the ABC the man was visiting from South East Asia.
“His swimming ability was limited and attempts to get flotation devices to him were unsuccessful,” Inspector Elliott said.
“The male drifted out to sea and disappeared and unfortunately his body was later found dead.”
Inspector Elliott said although there were warning signs, the incident was a reminder to be careful around water.
“Whether you are a tourist or a local, you should respect the power and unpredictable nature of the ocean and take all the safety precautions you can,” he said.
