Donald Trump’s Justice Department charged former FBI boss James Comey over his Instagram post.
The Daily Mail has learned that the new indictment relates to an Instagram post Comey made last May in which seashells were written as ‘8647’, which Trump’s critics embraced and described as a call for the president and his allies to assassinate Trump.
The number 86 is slang for eliminating or getting rid of something, but it can also mean to kill. Trump is the 47th president. Comey shared the photo with the following caption: ‘Awesome seashell formation on my beach walk.’
Trump’s allies claimed that the post called for the ‘assassination’ of Trump. Then-Interior Secretary Kristi Noem said the Secret Service would investigate the former FBI director.
Comey later deleted the post the same day, claiming he ‘didn’t realize some people were associating these numbers with violence.’
Secret Service agents soon conducted an hours-long interview with Comey. At that time, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard said that ‘he should be put behind bars for this’ and that he was ‘concerned’ that Trump’s life was in danger.
Comey was indicted by a federal grand jury in Virginia last fall on two charges: making false statements to Congress and obstructing congressional proceedings related to his testimony before the 2020 Senate Judiciary Committee.
A federal judge dismissed the indictment in November and ruled that the prosecutor who filed the case, Lindsey Halligan, was unlawfully appointed.

The Daily Mail has contacted the Ministry of Justice for comment. The Department of Justice plans to hold a press conference at 4pm ET to discuss the indictment.
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche’s decision to charge him comes a month after Trump fired his predecessor, Pam Bondi, for not being aggressive enough in going after his perceived enemies.
