Prasoon Joshi appointed chairman of Prasar Bharati

Joshi, a renowned lyricist, author and communications expert, will now lead the Board of Directors of Prasar Bharati. He is known for his work in films, commercials, and mass messaging, and has been a part of many popular campaigns and songs.
Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw congratulated Joshi and spoke about his new assignment.
In a press release shared by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Vaishnaw praised his creative journey and connection with Indian culture, saying: “My heartfelt congratulations to Shri Prasoon Joshi ji on his appointment as the Chairman of Prasar Bharati. Prasoon ji is a rare creative soul celebrated globally in advertising, literature, art and cinema, but his heart beats unmistakably for India.”
“His words carry the scent of our land and his vision reflects the timeless essence of our culture. Under his stewardship, Prasar Bharati will discover renewed energy, deeper purpose and a fresh creative voice. I wish him all the best for a memorable and meaningful tenure ahead,” he added.
Joshi has been serving as the Chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) since 2017. During his time there, he worked closely with people from the film industry and conducted certification efforts. Prior to this, he held senior roles in advertising, including CEO of McCann World Group India and President of McCann World Group Asia Pacific. He is also a member of the board of trustees of the Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts.
Prasar Bharati is the public broadcaster of India and operates under the Prasar Bharati Act, 1990. It started operations in 1997 and operates two major services: All India Radio and Doordarshan. These platforms reach people across the country in many languages, providing news, education and entertainment content. Prasar Bharati has also launched the Waves OTT platform to strengthen free OTT services in the spirit of public broadcasting.
