Met Office names areas facing Bank Holiday Monday rain barrage – new forecast | Weather | News

Although it will feel ‘hot and quite humid’, the three-day forecast predicts ‘bursts of thunder’ and ‘heavy showers’.

Meteorologists said that today (Saturday, May 2) will start ‘unstable’ and there will be heavy rains in some regions.

Early showers or thunderstorms will move eastwards, with additional showers occurring in the morning hours, particularly across Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Met Office chief forecaster Dan Harris said: “Meanwhile, rain will reach the south of England in the morning, spreading northwards across much of England and Wales later in the day, with the risk of minor storms, again severe at times, these are most likely to be in the south-east.”

“Away from the heaviest showers, many southern and eastern areas will feel warm and quite humid, while in the north temperatures will remain near average and conditions will vary significantly throughout the day.”

Those in England and Wales are likely to have a damp start to Sunday 3 May.

Precipitation was expected to steadily decrease throughout the day, allowing brighter intervals to appear in some locations, but this could lead to heavy showers or thunderstorms.

Temperatures are forecast to remain near average in northern areas, while parts of the southeast may still be relatively warm.

Deputy chief forecaster Mark Sidaway said: “Bank holiday Monday will remain variable with clouds and scattered showers persisting in the south and central areas, but these should be milder and less frequent than at the weekend.”
