Wizz Air issues UK flights update to customers with bookings after rule change | UK | News

Leading budget airline Wizz Air has issued an update to customers with bookings following the Government rule change.
Holidaymakers in the UK have been told to prepare for potential flight cancellations this summer after the government introduced a rule change that will allow airlines to condense multiple flights to the same destination into a single service.
Under the new rules, passengers can be moved from a service they originally booked to a similar service to reduce the amount of fuel wasted by flying out-of-sold flights that may be cancelled.
Which consumer group? He criticized the plan and said the rules should not be “bent in favor of the airlines”.
The Government on Sunday reminded air passengers of their rights, including where they face long delays or cancellations, in a bid to keep summer holidays without disruption.
The Department for Transport (DfT) said passengers who experienced flight cancellations could expect to receive a refund or be directed to another service, while passengers facing long delays were entitled to care and assistance.
In a briefing document, the department said passengers who experience cancellations have the right to choose between a refund or being redirected to another service, in which case airlines must offer a similar alternative.
Canceled passengers and passengers facing a delay of at least two hours on a short flight, three hours on a medium-haul flight and four hours on a long flight are entitled to care and assistance.
The DfT said this could include offering vouchers for a reasonable amount of food and drink, refunding the cost of searches, accommodation and travel to and from accommodation if the flight is cancelled.
But on Sunday night airline Wizz Air moved to ‘reassure customers’ that it was not affected by the jet fuel crisis and said it planned to operate a ‘full summer programme’.
A spokesman told PA: “Wizz Air acknowledges today’s announcement from the UK Government and wishes to reassure customers that its operations remain fully stable and unaffected.
“The airline has confirmed that it plans to continue operating its full summer schedule, flying passengers safely and reliably to their destinations across its extensive network.
“Wizz Air works closely with its partners to ensure smooth operations throughout the busy travel season.”
