A2 Milk baby formula pulled from US shelves after potent toxin discovered in product

A2 Milk Company has recalled several lines of its baby food from U.S. shelves following the discovery of a highly potent toxin.
Three lots of infant milk formula labeled A2 Platinum USA sold exclusively in the United States were recalled due to the presence of cerulide.
Symptoms of cerulidine typically take effect within 30 minutes to six hours and include nausea and vomiting.
Although symptoms often subside on their own, babies may be at risk of dehydration due to their developing immune systems and may seek immediate medical care if symptoms develop.
The product was sold through A2 Milk Company’s website, Amazon and Meijer stores, with 16,428 units of formula sold.
Following today’s announcement, the Auckland-based company’s shares fell 12 per cent from $7.27 to $6.49 on the ASX.
The company said it had not received any reported cases of illness or harm.
David Bortolussi, chief executive and managing director of A2 Milk Company, reassured parents and carers that other markets, including Australia, were not affected by this isolated recall.
Formula was recalled with the following batch numbers and expiration dates:
- Batch number 2210269454 and expiration date 15/07/2026
- Batch number 2210324609 and expiration date 21/01/2027
- Batch number 2210321712 and expiration date 15/01/2027
Customers who purchased any of these products are advised to discontinue use, discard or return the product to the place of purchase.
The company said no A2 Milk Company products sold outside the United States were affected.
