The death of two people in a shooting attack at a shopping mall in the USA left the society, defined as ‘peaceful’, in shock.

A man opened fire on five people after a meeting at a complex north of Dallas, Texas, according to police. Carrollton Police Chief Roberto Arredondo confirmed the suspect knew both victims.

“This was a known business relationship. We are still trying to determine what motivated his actions,” Arredondo said.

Seung Han Ho, 69, was taken into custody after a short police chase at a grocery store about four miles away.

Officers went to a nearby apartment complex where Ho was listed as a recent resident, but neighbors stated they did not recognize that name.

Three other people were injured in the clash, but police confirmed that all three were in a stable condition.

Armed officers and FBI agents were among law enforcement officers collecting evidence in the parking lot following the incident.

Carrollton, located 20 miles north of Dallas, is home to more than 4,000 residents of Korean descent, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

“We were shocked,” said John Jun, who is active in the Korean American community. “We’re not immune to something like this, but overall we’re a hard-working, peaceful community.”

The city is home to numerous Korean churches, from Baptist to Presbyterian, and over the past 20 years has developed into a thriving Koreatown for the greater Dallas area. The area is home to major retailers like H Mart, as well as numerous restaurants serving everything from Korean fried chicken to shaved ice desserts.
