Manchester City: Khadija Shaw likely to leave Women’s Super League champions this summer

Khadija Shaw is expected to leave Manchester City this summer after new contract talks stalled.

This will be a big blow for the new champion of the Women’s Super League, who has been negotiating with the striker for months.

Former WSL champions Chelsea are understood to be among the clubs interested in signing the 29-year-old Jamaican, who is the WSL’s top scorer this season.

City manager Andree Jeglertz said in April that he hoped Shaw would extend his contract, which was set to expire in June.

It seems that confidence has been established that an agreement will be reached following the positive talks held in January.

But, The Guardian reported, external City were unable to meet Shaw’s demands throughout the duration of his contract.

He initially did not want to leave and hoped to retire at City, but the breakdown in negotiations means he is exploring other options.

Shaw has been the club’s top goalscorer over the last four seasons and is poised to win the WSL Golden Boot for a third successive season with 19 goals in 21 appearances with one league game remaining.

Manchester City declined to comment when contacted by BBC Sport.
