Angela Rayner humiliated as Labour loses Tameside at local elections | Politics | News

Labor lost Tameside council, where it had no overall control in Angela Rayner’s constituency. The ruling party was defending 17 seats in Greater Manchester, losing 16 of them to Reform.
Sir Keir Starmer’s party lost control of seven other authorities, including Wandsworth, Westminster and Hartlepool. Ms Rayner is among those who could potentially move to oust the Prime Minister following the disastrous local election results. It comes as Nigel Farage claimed Reform UK was on track to win the next general election.
An ebullient Mr Farage heralded to reporters a “historic shift in British politics”, noting that his team had “gained stunning percentages in traditional old Labor areas” and said there was “no such thing as Left-Right anymore”.
The reform leader compared the significant gains to overcoming Becher’s Brook, a difficult jump in the Grand National.
He said: “If we cross Becher Creek and make a good landing, we will go on to win the Grand National.
“What is very clear to me is that our voters will now stay with us until the end.”
The Greens and Liberal Democrats also made gains in English councils overnight.
This all comes ahead of the publication of results from the Senedd elections in Wales and the Scottish Holyrood vote.
In Wales, Labor is expected to lose the national vote for the first time in more than a century, while the SNP is expected to remain the largest party in Scotland after 19 years in power.
