Man charged after elderly man struck and killed by car in southwestern Sydney

A driver has been charged after an elderly pedestrian was struck and killed by a car while walking along a footpath in Sydney’s south-west on Friday.
Emergency services were called to the corner of Railway Parade and Hughes Street in Cabramatta at around 4pm on Friday after an SUV left the road and hit an 81-year-old man walking along the footpath.
The man, who was intervened by medical teams, died at the scene despite all interventions.
The 51-year-old driver of the SUV was uninjured and was taken to Liverpool Hospital for mandatory testing.
He was then taken to Cabramatta Police Station a short time later where he was charged with causing death by negligent driving.
The man was released on bail and will appear at Liverpool Local Court on June 3.
While a crime scene investigation area has been established, the police continue their investigation into the incident.
