Police investigating alleged anti-Semitic slur at children’s netball game

A woman is being investigated by NSW Police after she allegedly directed anti-Semitic slurs at Jewish players during a children’s netball match at Maroubra in Sydney’s eastern suburbs on Saturday.

Police were called to the Heffron Park netball courts on Saturday morning and it was alleged that a parent watching from the sidelines had made the insult.

The woman allegedly said: “Fuck the Jews” and “They should all have been destroyed.”

The woman was not arrested and police were ordered to take action.

“Just after 10am today, police were called to the netball courts on Fitzgerald Avenue in Maroubra following reports of a woman making offensive comments towards a group of people,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“Police officers attached to East Coast Police Area Command met and interviewed a 42-year-old woman.

“He has been given necessary instructions and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.”

The incident took place as the Royal Commission into anti-Semitism and social cohesion began its first hearing in Sydney this week.

Commissioner Virginia Bell heard evidence that Australian Jews were subjected to racist abuse on the streets, including on sports fields.
