Polling data shows scale of One Nation’s win in Farrer; Government gears up to deliver federal budget; Iran responds to US’ newest ceasefire proposal
One Nation MP Barnaby Joyce this morning confirmed reports that he was eyeing Labor seats in Sydney’s western suburbs following the party’s historic victory over the Coalition in Farrer.
“We’re also keeping Sydney’s western suburbs in mind,” Joyce told Seven’s. Sunrise.
“I was talking to people from Sydney’s western suburbs last night, both in the field. Honestly, I was even talking to potential candidates. People are very enthusiastic.”
“When you have record small business bankruptcies, when you have a government that can’t understand that people are in over their heads with climate change policy… they think they’re in over their power bills. They think Australia has huge potential, [we] “Joyce doesn’t seem to like putting it in the paddock,” he said.
Joining Joyce was Social Services Minister Tanya Plibersek, who said it was important to listen to what Australians were telling the government. He also accused Joyce of inaction on important social issues when he was the country’s deputy prime minister.
“We are acting on housing affordability after 10 years of inaction from the Coalition government, where Barnaby Joyce was deputy prime minister and never did any of the things that he now says are important,” Plibersek said.
