Horror as Year 7 student is hit by a train after his backpack became caught between two carriages

The young boy who was hit by a train this morning and dragged for meters, and whose backpack got stuck between the wagons, is struggling to survive.

The St Aloysius College Year 7 student was standing on a platform at North Melbourne Railway Station around 4pm on Monday.

It appears that the child was hit by the train, dragged for meters, and then trapped under the train in front of a crowd of passengers.

Students at the boy’s school also witnessed the terrible incident.

Fire and Rescue Victoria used a hydraulic jack to lift the train and rescue the student, who was treated by eight paramedics at the scene.

The man, who remained in a critical condition, was later taken to the Royal Children’s Hospital where he received treatment for serious injuries to his lower legs.

The principal of St Aloysius College emailed students and parents to offer support following the incident.

‘At around 4pm today, we received reports that one of our Year 7 students was involved in an accident at North Melbourne Railway Station,’ he wrote.

First responders are also supported by consulting services.

Metro Trains confirmed the cancellation of the Craigieburn line on Monday night, causing delays on the Werribee and Williamstown lines.
