TalkTV names Andy Burnham’s most formidable contender who has ‘real integrity’ | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

During Mark Dolan’s TalkTV show today, his guest revealed who he thinks should run against Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham to become an MP. The move follows news that Burnham has received permission to enter the running for the Makerfield by-election, with a seat being vacated specifically to facilitate her potential return.
Appearing on TalkTV, Reform Advocate Simon Danczuk said Maggie Oliver should stand up to Burnham after she lifted the lid on the Rochdale grooming ring cover-up. Danczuk, a one-time Labor MP, also told the audience there was “real arrogance” about Burnham putting himself forward.
Dolan said: “I wonder whether Burnham’s chances of winning this seat will depend on his local profile. What do we think; 70/30 in his favour? Not exactly 50/50, is it?”
Guest acknowledged this and said he thought Burham’s odds were “all in his favour”.
Asked who would run against Burnham, Danczuk suggested: “I think they need a good local person and I think Maggie Oliver would be great because she’s from Greater Manchester.
“If not Maggie, then she’s a local person with integrity, wanted in the local area. The last candidate, I don’t remember her name but I think she was recently elected as a local councillor. She looks like a good candidate.”
Announcing his plans to contest the by-election yesterday, Burham said: “I grew up in this area and have lived here for 25 years. I care very much about this place and its people. I know they are disappointed by national politics.”
Ed Miliband’s former senior adviser Sonia Sodha told Sky today: “I think if there’s anyone who can win in this seat it’s Andy Burnham – he’s from the local area. [and] He is very popular in Greater Manchester. “So if he doesn’t win, I’m not sure anyone from Labor can win.”
