Man, 38, dead after shark attack off Rottnest Island

A 38-year-old man has died after being mauled by a shark off Western Australia’s Rottnest Island.
Emergency services were called just before 10am on Saturday to reports of a shark attack.
Emergency services sent the RAC rescue helicopter to meet the fatally injured man on the island, but he could not be resuscitated by paramedics.
A WA police spokesman said the 38-year-old was believed to have been bitten while in the water at Horseshoe Reef.
“The man was taken by ship to shore where he was met by SJA WA paramedics,” he said.
“Unfortunately the man could not be resuscitated. WA Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.”
The Department for Primary Industries and Regional Development has urged those on Rottnest Island to pay more attention to the water.
There was a public report of an approximately 5-foot white shark being found on a nearby beach around 10 a.m. Saturday morning, ABC reported.
