As emergency services rushed to Bury town centre, police issued a statement urging people to “stay away from the area”. Police and firefighters are on hand at the Rock car park on Derby Road, off Rochdale Road.

Greater Manchester Police said officers were responding to concerns about the welfare of a person. In the images taken from the scene, it is seen that many police vehicles, ambulances and fire trucks are at the scene. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Our crews are currently dealing with an incident on Rochdale Road in Bury. Residents are asked to please avoid the area at this time.”
