Trump pulls US out of Unesco in blow for UN culture and education agency | Unesco

The US Department of State, the US State Department, said Donald Trump will leave the United Nations Culture and Education Agency UNESCO because it continues to leave international institutions.

“UNESCO is working to advance the social and cultural reasons of the Department of Foreign Ministry spokesman Tamy Bruce, spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and focuses on the UN’s sustainable development goals, the globalist, international development ideological agenda that contradicts our first foreign policy of America.

The movement is a blow to the Paris -based global organization established to encourage peace through international education, science and cultural cooperation after the Second World War.

The decision is part of the President’s second term driving force to remove the US from a series of global organs, including the Palestinian aid agency UNRWA and withdrawing from the UN Council of Human Rights as part of its participation in UN agencies.

The withdrawal of the US, which came into force in December 2026, will be a blow to UNESCO’s struggle against education, culture and hate speech. However, officials at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris were prepared for a potential departure of the US in the second period of Trump. The US provides approximately 8% of the body’s total budget, and the financial impact of Washington’s departure makes the US less severe than other organizations, such as the largest financial supportive DSÖ.

The White House spokesman Anna Kelly said to the New York Post: “President Trump decided to withdraw the United States from UNESCO – This supports Uyanık, separatist cultural and social reasons, which took completely step with common sense policies in November.”

In February, the White House announced a 90 -day examination of US UNESCO membership, and said that the global organ has “failed itself in reform, that it has constantly shows anti -Israeli feeling in the last decade and has not been able to deal with concerns about assembly debts”.

The United Nations Educational, Science and Cultural Organization UNESCO is known for identifying world heritage areas, including the Great Kanyon in the United States and the ancient Palmyra city in Syria. It also has a great cultural and educational program to promote intercultural dialogue.

The United States was the founding member of UNESCO in 1945, but this last departure will leave it for the third time.

Washington first said in 1983 that the global organization had anti -Western prejudice and olmak politicized every issue it deals with ”. In 2003, George W Bush re -joined, and the White House said he was satisfied with UNESCO reforms.

In 2017, Trump removed the USA from UNESCO in his first period as president. He called the management as “assembly debts, the basic need for reform in the organization and the anti -Israeli prejudice”.

The US returned to UNESCO in 2023 under Joe Biden. Biden said that it is very important to participate again to resist the “Chinese influence”. Beijing was the largest financial supporter of the organization in the absence of Washington. As a regret condition, the US accepted the safety of Holocaust commemoration and journalists to pay approximately 619 million dollars in unpaid dues and supporting programs supporting educational access attempts in Africa.

In 2011, UNESCO voted to accept Palestine, which is not recognized by the US or Israel as the UN member state. Barack Obama White House reduced its UNESCO contributions and caused the US to indebioner for millions of debt for the organization.

UNESCO General Manager Audrey Azoulay said: “Unfortunately, this announcement was foreseen and UNESCO was prepared for it.”
Azoulay said that the movement regrets Trump’s decision to leave Trump’s decision to leave, saying that the movement “contradicts the basic principles of multilateralism”.

He said that the US reasons to leave were the same as Trump’s first period and discussed them. “These allegations contradict the reality of UNESCO’s efforts, especially in the field of Holocaust education and anti -Semitism.”

Azoulay said that UNESCO has undertaken structural reforms and diversified financing sources, so “the diminishing trend in the US financial contribution is balanced”. He added that UNESCO did not intend to cut off because of the US departure.
