Veerashaiva Mahasabha leaders demand probe against police

Veerashaiva Mahasabha leaders in Dharwad said a young member of the community died due to harassment by police officers and demanded action against the police officers.
They also demanded compensation for the family of Aditya Myageri, who died due to police harassment.
This decision was taken at the meeting of Veerashaiva Lingayat leaders at Lingayat Bhavan in Dharwad on Sunday.
They condemned the Congress government for suspending only three police personnel and an inspector in connection with the death of Aditya Myageri, a student who ended his life due to police harassment.
They said a memorandum had earlier been submitted through the Deputy Commissioner requesting that an FIR be registered against the accused officials and the case be investigated by a retired Supreme Court judge.
However, they said no action has been taken so far. They promised to approach the courts if the state government did not act on their demands.
It was decided to establish the Veerashaiva Lingayat Protection Committee to protect the interests of people facing injustice in society.
General secretary Shivasharan Kalabashettar, Madivallappa Siriyannavar, Veeresh Kelageri, Manjunath Mooganavar, Vijayalakshmi Kalyanshettar, Shrishailgouda Kamtar, SL Biradar, members of Aditya Myageri’s family and others were present.
