Heat wave to ease from May 31 as rain likely in parts of Andhra Pradesh

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and AP State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA), after nearly two weeks of intense heat in Andhra Pradesh, temperatures are expected to start a gradual decline from Sunday, May 31, 2026.

However, APSDMA said severe heat conditions are likely to continue on Saturday, May 30, 2026, especially in Polavaram, Kakinada, Eluru and Krishna districts where maximum temperatures may reach 45°C to 46°C.

Temperatures were recorded above 42°C in 51 mandals in 10 districts on Friday. The highest temperature of 45°C was recorded at Kommipadu in SPSR Nellore district. This was followed by 44.6°C at Devarapalli in East Godavari district, 43.9°C at Bhamini in Parvathipuram Manyam district and Rajam in Vizianagaram district, 43.8°C at Karedu in SPSR Nellore district and Venkatagiri in Tirupati district and 43°C at Lakshminarasupeta in Srikakulam district.

In contrast, Chittoor, Dr. While a few places in BR Ambedkar Konaseema, Eluru, West Godavari and Palnadu districts experienced light rainfall, the rainfall remained below 14 mm.

Meanwhile, IMD has forecast isolated heavy rain and thunderstorms over South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema on May 30 and 31. Gusty winds of 50-60 kmph are also likely at isolated places in Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema.

Strong winds blowing in Vijayawada and parts of Krishna and Guntur districts on Thursday night caused minor damage. It was reported that the uprooting of several electric poles in Vijayawada caused power outages in some areas. But county and city officials said the impact was less severe than the damage caused by last week’s weather system.
