Minor Girl Allegedly Abused By Relative Grandfather In Odisha

Bhubaneswar : In a shocking development, it was claimed that a seven-year-old girl, who went to visit her mother’s house during the summer holidays, was ‘sexually assaulted’ by her relative grandfather. The grisly incident was reported from Sambalpur’s Bamra district in Odisha on Saturday.

According to the information obtained, when the little girl was alone at home, the accused old man called her and took her to a mango orchard where he committed this heinous crime. When the issue came to the fore, the family members immediately approached the Govindpur police station and reported the crime.

The police took immediate action, came to the village upon complaint, caught the suspect and sent him to the courthouse. Medical examination and legal procedures are ongoing while investigators collect evidence and statements

Local authorities appealed for calm while promising a thorough investigation and support for the child.

In a similar incident in October 2024, a man allegedly raped his minor nephew at a place within Raghunathpali police limits in Rourkela. The issue came to the fore when the victim’s family members filed a complaint at the police station against the suspect, who is a distant relative of the victim.

According to sources, the suspect fled the city after committing the crime and is still on the run.

Community members and child welfare groups are calling for counseling and protection for victims and for stricter measures to prevent such crimes.
