Hyderabad: The police took immediate action and reunited the 4-year-old boy with his family within 11 hours.
The boy’s father, Muhammad Khaja Qureshi, a trader, filed a complaint at 19.30 on Saturday, stating that his son Muhammad Hamza Qureshi went missing while playing with his friends in Natrajnagar. K. Balakrishna, SHO of Tappachabutra police station, said that he suspected kidnapping and mentioned that a woman wearing a burqa was seen in the vicinity.
Crime No. 112 of 2026, a case of abduction under BNS Section 137(2) was registered and recorded in the General Diary. Two special teams were created. Police reviewed over 70 CCTV footage and spoke to local residents. During the verification, Hamza was seen next to a woman in a burqa.
Police, who tracked her movements through cameras, identified her as 40-year-old Tasleem Begum, a maid from Tappachabutra, Gangabowli. The woman was detained by police teams. He gave conflicting statements during interrogation and initially claimed that Hamza had accompanied him voluntarily. He then said he planned to keep the boy there overnight and make his presence known at the local mosque during morning prayers.
The police became suspicious because he did not inform the nearby police station and kept the child with him. Hamza was rescued at 12.30 on Sunday and reunited with his family.
Investigators said CCTV footage showed Hamza walking alone towards Tasleem. His background is being verified and further investigation is ongoing.
