Marxist political commentator and Twitch streamer Hasan Piker harshly criticized New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill during a livestream on Sunday, accusing the Democratic governor of aiding the Trump administration’s immigration agenda by responding to anti-ICE protests outside a detention facility in Newark.
Piker’s criticism came after Sherrill defended the deployment of state police around demonstrations outside Delaney Hall, an ICE detention center in Newark, and said he would not allow the unrest to provide an excuse for expanded federal immigration operations in New Jersey.
“I refuse to let this happen in New Jersey. I will not give ICE excuses,” Sherrill said in a speech broadcast during a news segment to which Piker reacted live.
Piker immediately mocked the governor’s statement.

“Yeah, I’m not going to give ICE excuses. So I’m going to make sure they don’t have to do anything because I’m going to do it myself,” Piker said. “That’s basically the commodity here for this blue state and its new blue governor.”
The political commentator later expanded his criticism beyond Sherrill’s handling of the protests.
“Ladies and gentlemen, this is the centrist wing of the Democratic Party. That’s what it is,” Piker said.

The comments came as anti-ICE demonstrations continued outside Delaney Hall, where activists claimed detainees were being held in poor conditions and did not receive enough food. The Department of Homeland Security disputed these claims.
Later in the broadcast, Piker accused Sherrill of helping develop President Donald Trump’s immigration policies.
“The story is not about far-left activists who continue to be outraged at ICE in New Jersey,” Piker said. “The real story is the horrific conditions inside this facility… and the governor acting like he doesn’t have the power to put a stop to this and using the power he has to work with the MAGA movement alongside the Trump administration because these are state troopers on horseback in anti-riot gear.”

“These are state troopers who are brutalizing New Jerseyans,” he added.
Piker also accused authorities of mistreating journalists covering the demonstrations.
“They’re giving s— to the Israeli occupation force. It’s disgusting,” he said, discussing reports that an Associated Press photographer was injured while covering the protests.

The broadcaster also used the broadcast to criticize Democratic lawmakers on immigration policy.
“Democrats are certainly engaged in this process,” Piker said, arguing that some members of the party support immigration enforcement legislation and funding measures.
“I want to change this system,” he later added. “Part of this has to do with electing people who will make a big fuss.”

Later in the broadcast, Piker told viewers: “I’m trying to change that, too.”
In recent months, Piker has traveled the country searching for candidates endorsed by the Democratic Socialists of America.
During Sunday’s live broadcast, the billionaire voiced his support for gubernatorial candidate Tom Steyer and quoted Chinese Communist Party founder Mao Zedong.
Piker has previously drawn scrutiny for his support of progressive candidates and activism surrounding immigration policy.

Earlier this year, he campaigned in New Jersey for congressional candidate Adam Hamamy, a candidate backed by the Democratic Socialists of America, which Piker publicly defended following media scrutiny of his background.
Sherrill’s office did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
