Rams adding Myles Garrett as part of blockbuster trade and Super Bowl push for 2026 season

The word “blockbuster” is used so often in the NFL because there are clicks. But Monday brought a truly blockbuster trade as the Cleveland Browns and Los Angeles Rams agreed to a deal that would send generational pass rusher Myles Garrett to the Rams for Pro Bowl pass rusher Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick and more.
Then choose your adjective:
Blockbuster.
Bomb.
Staggering.

“Nothing is final at this point,” Browns general manager Andrew Berry told reporters at the Cleveland Browns Foundation’s 26th annual golf tournament. “We are discussing a potential agreement” [Garrett]. Once it becomes final, if it becomes final, we will have more to say about it and I will discuss the details at that point, but you know, we are in negotiations.
“We’re hoping to close something here in the next few hours.”
This was just minutes before the two teams reached an agreement.
RAIDERS TRADE MAXX CROSBY TO RAVENS FOR TWO FIRST ROUND DRAFT PICKS
The only way that can happen now is if either of the players involved refuses to report to their new teams or fails physically — something that happened earlier this year with the trade of accomplished pass rusher Maxx Crosby to the Baltimore Ravens.
To prevent this… Wow!
This is the Rams’ crowning piece to an offseason in which they showed they will make a Super Bowl push in 2026.
RAMS TAKES ALL-PRO TRENT MCDUFFIE IN BLOCKBOOK TRADE WITH CHEFS: REPORT
The team traded Pro Bowl cornerback Trent McDuffie to the Kansas City Chiefs, added the Chiefs’ other starting cornerback, Jaylen Watson, in free agency and selected quarterback Ty Simpson in the first round of the draft.

Adding Simpson won’t necessarily help the team this season, but it has given the Rams confidence to pull off the Garrett deal because they have a young quarterback on the roster should starter Matthew Stafford retire after 2026.
After winning last season’s Most Valuable Player award, Stafford announced he would return in 2026, but since he is 38 years old, his expectations are measured from season to season. Therefore, having a viable new starter in Simpson for 2027 was important for Los Angeles to include a 2027 first-round pick in the trade for Garrett.

Did you know that Garrett was a two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year?
Did you know that Garrett holds the NFL record for most sacks in a season? He broke the NFL single-season record by producing 23 sacks in 2025, accomplishing something even Hall of Fame pass rushers like Reggie White, Lawrence Taylor and Bruce Smith have never accomplished.
Prior to that, Garrett combined for multiple 14-plus sack seasons to lead the Browns in sacks in that category with 123.5, propelling him to five-time All-Pro status.
So yes, Garrett has built a resume that has established him as one of the most dominant forward rushers in NFL history.
By the way, the verse is not bad at all.

Entering his third NFL season at age 25, Verse has already become one of the league’s premier offensive players as he impacts games well beyond his traditional sack numbers. As a rookie in 2024, he earned NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year honors after recording 66 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and an NFL rookie-leading 77 pressures, demonstrating his ability to disrupt offenses on every snap.

He followed that up with 58 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks and three forced fumbles in 2025, earning a second consecutive Pro Bowl selection. More importantly, Verse developed into one of the league’s most devastating pass rushers, finishing with 100 quarterback pressures, second-most in the NFL, according to Pro Football Focus.
This trade gives the Browns two first-round draft picks in 2027; This draft is highly valued due to its expected current talent. A team looking to the future.
Meanwhile, the Rams are aiming to win the Super Bowl next season.
