An eight-year-old boy has died and another is fighting for his life in a multi-vehicle crash in Cornwall.
Emergency services attended the scene shortly before 11am on Friday following reports of a collision on the westbound carriageway of the A30 near Connor Downs.
Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed an eight-year-old child died at the scene, while a five-year-old child was taken to Bristol Children’s Hospital in a critical condition.
A woman in her 70s was treated at Derriford Hospital after suffering serious injuries. Another woman, in her 40s, was treated in hospital but later discharged.
Two women and two children were traveling in the same car. Relatives are supported by specially trained staff.
A man in his 60s was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. The slightly injured person was treated.
While the person was released within the scope of the investigation, the investigation continues.
Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage from the area at the time of the crash to come forward.

Detective Inspector Andy Heath, from Devon and Cornwall Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Team, said: ‘Our thoughts are with those affected by this incident.
Experts from the ‘Roads Policing Team and the Serious Collision Investigation Team’ continued investigations over the weekend and the investigation team will be carrying out various investigations over the coming weeks.
‘It is not possible to provide detailed information about the cause of the collision and I ask the public not to speculate.
‘Further information will be released in due course. ‘Our priority now is to support those directly affected by this tragic incident and secure the evidence needed for a thorough investigation.’
