Passenger dies after falling from stairs as she got off plane in Brazil

A passenger died after falling down the stairs after getting off the plane at one of Brazil’s busiest airports.
The 72-year-old woman, whose name was not disclosed, arrived at Congonhas Airport, one of São Paulo’s two main airports, from Ribeirão Preto in the northeastern region of the state, on Latam’s flight LA3785.
When he arrived at the scene, it was learned that he fell and was injured and was taken to the hospital after the intervention at the scene.
It was learned that the woman died at noon yesterday at the private Alemao Osvaldo Cruz Hospital in São Paulo, two days after the accident.
Local reports said he was hospitalized with skull bleeding after his fall.
Latam Airlines Brasil said in a statement this afternoon: ‘On Friday, a passenger fell while descending the stairs from flight LA 3785 (Ribeirao Preto to Congonhas).
‘He was assisted by an ambulance and taken to a local hospital for treatment, accompanied by a company employee who remained there until the family arrived.
‘LATAM is deeply saddened by the death of the passenger and expresses its condolences to his family.

‘The airline reiterated that it has taken all possible safety measures, both technical and operational, to ensure a safe journey for everyone, emphasizing that it follows all protocols established for such a situation.’
Until 1985, Congonhas was São Paulo’s main airport, providing domestic flights as well as international service to neighboring countries such as Argentina, Paraguay and Chile.
Since the opening of Guarulhos Airport in the same year, international flights no longer operate from Congonhas, but regional and short-haul domestic flights remain important for the city.
