US President Donald Trump is reportedly running out of patience with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu due to the ongoing military operations in Lebanon.

In what sources described as one of the most tense talks between the two leaders since Trump returned to office, Trump is said to have confronted Netanyahu during a phone call on Monday over concerns about Israel’s ongoing military activities in Lebanon. Netanyahu fears Iran could derail ceasefire talks after Tehran threatened to withdraw from discussions on Israel’s stance.

Following the call, Trump shared on Truth Social that Iran ceasefire talks, which included discussions on ending hostilities in Lebanon, were “continuing apace” after Israel claimed it had halted operations in Beirut.

Trump and Netanyahu have maintained regular contact since they launched joint military operations in Iran, resulting in an escalation of the conflict between Israel and Lebanon’s Iran-backed paramilitary political organization Hezbollah.

Netanyahu announced Monday that the Israeli army will continue operations in southern Lebanon following attacks on the outskirts of Beirut in response to Hezbollah firing rockets into northern Israel, including the mixed city of Haifa.

Official US sources briefed on Monday’s phone call told Axios that an “angry” Trump turned to personal attacks amid growing frustration with the Israeli leader. During the phone call, Trump reportedly told Netanyahu, “You’re crazy. If it weren’t for me, you’d be in jail. I’m hiding your a—,” and noted his support for the Israeli leader during his corruption trial, adding, “What the hell are you doing?” he reportedly asked.

While US official sources summarized the meeting between the two world leaders, Trump reportedly added, “Everyone hates you now. That’s why everyone hates Israel.”

Providing additional insight into this exchange, the source revealed that Trump understood Israel’s decision to respond to Hezbollah attacks, but believed Israel had taken its military action too far following civilian casualties and the destruction of buildings while pursuing a Hezbollah commander.

A separate US official source suggested that Trump “empowered” Netanyahu during the meeting. “Bibi said, ‘Okay, okay, make sure everything is taken care of,'” the official claims.

“I had a very productive meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu and no troops will be going to Beirut and any troops that go have already been turned away,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Monday.

“Likewise, I had a very good meeting with Hezbollah through their senior Representatives, and they agreed that all attacks would stop, that Israel would not attack them, and that they would not attack Israel.”

He later added this about the so-called deal: “Let’s see how long this lasts – I hope it lasts forever!”
