GHMC’s Sacred Collection Drive Today

Hyderabad: GHMC will conduct Hyderabad’s first sacred collection drive on June 6 to help citizens dispose of old deity photographs, damaged frames, worn-out idols and other sacred items without sending them to regular landfills.
The pilot program will take place from 9am to 11pm at SB Hall, Iskcon Temple, Banjara Hills. Citizens were asked to hand over sacred items no longer used in worship so that a traditional farewell through prayers could be carried out, followed by material recovery and environmentally friendly recycling.
GHMC said old puja frames, deity photographs, damaged idols and sacred items “should never be thrown away carelessly”. The nonprofit described the effort as a way to connect faith with environmental responsibility.
This initiative is also part of GHMC’s efforts towards source segregation, cleaner public spaces and responsible waste management in Hyderabad.
