Truck driver taken to hospital after crash shuts major Melbourne freeway

A truck driver was taken to hospital after his vehicle rolled over onto a major highway, causing traffic to come to a standstill and leaving him stranded.
The large truck overturned on an on-ramp after hitting the barrier on the bridge at the M80 Western Ring Road overpass in Mebourne on Saturday morning.
Ambulance Victoria said paramedics were dispatched to the scene shortly before 7.30am.
Advanced Life Support paramedics attended to the 51-year-old driver at the scene before taking him to the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
Aerial footage of the incident shows the truck’s load scattered across various lanes of the highway.
The overhead view also shows the white blanket stretching along the motorway below the on-ramp connecting from the M80 Ring Road.
Victoria’s transport department said all city-bound lanes on the Princes Highway to the West Gate Expressway and Geelong Road were closed due to the incident.
The ramp from the M80 Ring Road towards Altona to the Princes Motorway has also been closed to traffic.
