‘Meet the Press’ interview cut short as Trump clashes with Kristen Welker

President Donald Trump abruptly ended his tense “Meet the Press” interview with host Kristen Welker in Wisconsin on Sunday after she repeatedly disputed his claims about election fraud, vote counting in California and his proposed “anti-guns” fund.
Trump cut off the interview after accusing NBC, ABC, CBS and CNN of being “dishonest” in the latest conversation about his claims about the US election.
“You are a one-sided crooked network,” Trump told Welker. “I’m sorry. Let’s just leave it at that, because enough is enough. Thank you, darling. Have fun.”

That exchange escalated during the latest block, when Welker pressed Trump on a proposed $1.8 billion fund aimed at compensating people who say they were targeted by former President Joe Biden’s administration’s alleged “weaponization” of the government.
Welker asked Trump if he would leave the fund after Attorney General Todd Blanche said the administration would not move forward on the issue.
“To be very clear, are you abandoning the fund altogether, as acting attorney general Todd Blanche has said, or are you looking for another way to revitalize it?” Welker asked.
Trump defended the proposal and said people were being harmed by officials in the Biden administration.

“People have been hurt very badly by radical leftist lunatics working for the Biden administration and Sleepy Joe,” Trump said. “They’re so cruel. They’re violent, what they do to people. And of course they came after me more than anyone else.”
Welker pressed Trump on whether he still wanted to revive the proposal.
“So are you looking for a way to revive it?” Welker asked.
Trump acknowledged that he personally supports the idea but that it needs to be approved.
“If it were up to me, I would pay them what they deserve,” Trump said. “So personally I think the gun fund is a great idea, and so do a lot of other Republicans. You need to get it approved.”

Trump then expanded on his remarks by accusing the press and Biden officials of ruining people’s lives.
“I love that idea, because people like you, the fake dirty press, the distorted press, people like stupid Biden, not smart enough to understand what’s going on, but the people surrounding him, surrounding his beautiful Resolute Desk in the Oval Office, they’ve ruined people by what they’ve done to people’s lives,” Trump said.
Welker walked back Trump’s claims, saying the President had no evidence.
“To be very clear, there is no evidence of what you are saying,” Welker said.
Trump denied this.

“There’s a lot of evidence,” Trump said. “Listen to me. There is tremendous evidence. There is nothing but evidence.”
Trump later repeated his claim that the 2020 election was rigged and attributed it to California’s ongoing vote count.
“The election was rigged,” Trump said. “It was a dirty election. And the same thing is happening in California right now.”
Trump drew attention to the speed of vote counting in California, which took more than a month to certify state elections.

“All I have to do is look,” Trump said. “They’re crooked, just like you’re crooked, your press is crooked. And Meet the Press is crooked, too.”
“Your elections are skewed, you are skewed, and ‘Meet the Press’ is skewed. So are ABC, CBS and CNN,” Trump said before ending the interview. he said.
Welker tried to continue the interview by stating that NBC was traveling to Wisconsin for the interview.
“Mr. President, come on… please, I traveled all the way to Wisconsin,” Welker said.
Trump said he had already given Welker enough time.
“I sat in the rain with you for an hour,” Trump said. “Occasionally in the rain, I’ve given you enough time. You’d better fix your press, because you know what? A country can never be great with a dishonest press.”
