Vice President J.D. Vance will make his first appearance on ABC’s “The View” on Wednesday, becoming the third vice president to join the daytime talk show’s panel.
“It may be the optimist in me, but I think basically most people — not everyone, but most people — you should try to have a conversation with them even if I don’t agree with them,” Vance said in a sit-down interview on Fox News Digital on Tuesday.
Vance will join all six co-hosts, including Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Alyssa Farah Griffin and Ana Navarro, to talk about his new book, “Communion: Finding My Way to Faith.” His appearance comes on the heels of the Trump administration’s new deal with Iran, in which the vice president played a key role in negotiations.
When asked how he prepared for the interview, Vance said he approached it as an opportunity for serious conversation, even with people whose views differ from his own.

“My job as Vice President of the United States is not only to talk to the people who voted for me, but also to the people who didn’t vote for me,” Vance said.
“We’ll go and try to have a nice chat. I hope they meet me halfway. I’m a little skeptical, but we’ll see,” he added.
Vance’s appearance follows years of criticism from the show’s hosts, who have repeatedly targeted both him and his wife since his selection as President Donald Trump’s running mate.

Host Joy Behar argued that Vance was chosen to serve as vice president as a “carbon copy” of Trump and could not bring in new voters.
[Trump] In the same episode in July 2024, Hostin said, “He knows he’s the vice president who will do things that Mike Pence won’t do. I truly believe that. He’s an election denier. He’s not committed to accepting the results of this year’s election.”
Host Ana Navarro once noted that Walz might have had the opportunity to embarrass Vance ahead of last year’s vice presidential debate.

“What Tim Walz needs to do is expose J.D. Vance as a cowardly, hypocritical, hypocritical opportunist who remained silent while Trump attacked Kamala Harris for being biracial even though her children are biracial,” Navarro said. “Who remained silent while Trump supporters attacked Kamala Harris for being of Indian origin, being South Asian, even though she is married to an Indian woman?”
Vance will be the third vice president to appear on the program, following the participation of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, and the first Republican vice president to do so.
According to a study conducted by Media Research Center NewsBusters, “The View” had a total of 341 guests in 2025, but only two of them were conservatives and 128 were liberals.

The show’s co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin told the media on Monday that she plans to ask Vance about the financial incentives offered to Iran under the newly announced peace deal.
“He is said to be one of the main partners in the negotiations. I just want to get some clarity,” he said.
