Perth paediatrician faces dozens more child sex charges
A Perth pediatrician accused of child sexual assault has been hit with dozens more charges after police identified nine more victims.
New accusations against Dr Chia Liang Saw This was foreshadowed at a hearing in Perth Magistrates’ Court last weekHis bail application was postponed because prosecutors told the court the case against him was still ongoing.
Saw is scheduled to appear in the same court on Friday to have his bail application heard again.
But in the early hours of the morning WA Police confirmed a further nine victims had been identified and a total of 31 additional charges (including 7 indecent treatment with a child under 13) had been laid against the doctor.
“As part of an extensive investigation that began in May, detectives identified a further nine victims of alleged sexual assault by the defendant, a pediatrician,” WA Police said in a statement.
Other new charges include seven counts of producing child abuse material; six counts of improper intercourse with a child over 13 and under 16; five counts of improper recording of a child under 16; four counts of improper recording of a child under 13; One sexual intercourse with a child over the age of 13 and under the age of 16; and intent to procure a person believed to be under the age of 16 for sexual activity.
Saw, 41, was facing one count of continuous sexual intercourse with a child between 2023 and 2026 and one count of possession of child abuse material.
It was claimed that the victim at the center of these accusations was one of his patients and that the incident occurred at work.
Saw was a consultant and worked regularly in practices and hospitals in various suburbs of Perth, including Nedlands and Midland.
The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency suspended Saw’s registration following his arrest and banned him from practicing in Australia pending the outcome of criminal charges.
