Telangana ACB Finds Rs.1.50 Cr in Land Records Official’s Bank Locker

Hyderabad: Detectives of Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Saturday detected Rs 1.50 crore in one of the lockers belonging to the wife of S Narahari Rao, Deputy Director of Research and Land Records at Canara Bank in Shahaliibanda here.

An official said that during ACB’s raids on dozens of places belonging to Rao and benamis after the disproportionate assets (DA) case was registered, two lockers in the name of Rao’s wife were also detected.

The case was filed against Rao for acquiring assets disproportionate to his known sources of income by resorting to corrupt practices and questionable means during his service.

As part of the investigation, ACB officials opened the locker on Saturday and surprisingly found Rs.1.50 crore inside. After arresting him, the ACB produced Rao before the special court for ACB cases, following which the court remanded him to judicial custody for 14 days.

During the searches, documents relating to five open plots in Ranga Reddy District, 1.24 acres of agricultural land in Maheshwaram, one residential flat of 2,500 square feet in a high-rise building in Puppalaguda, two residential flats of 1,860 square feet each and one residential flat of 1,377 square feet in a high-rise building in Narsingi were seized. It was found in a high-rise building in Rajendra Nagar.

A ground-plus three-storey building was also identified at TNGO Colony in Gachibowli and a ground-plus two-storey residential building in Chatrinaka. Net cash of approximately Rs. 1.54 crore, bank balances of Rs.2.29 crore, fixed deposits worth Rs.5.04 crore, gold ornaments weighing about 1.3 kg and eight kg of silver were found in Rao’s house.

The total value of the assets detected during the searches was 12 thousand TL. 13.05 crore. The market value of the real estate is expected to be many times higher than the document value. Further verification of additional assets is ongoing.
