Chertsey death: Man arrested in murder investigation after girl, 3, found dead at Surrey home

A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the death of a three-year-old girl at a home in Surrey.

A Surrey Police spokesman said the girl was found dead after being called to a property in Chertsey on Thursday.

The 31-year-old man was arrested at the property in Pyrcroft Road and taken to hospital.

The police, who were called to the address at around 17.40 upon a security notice, said that the person would be taken into custody after his treatment.

Surrey Police’s major crime squad is conducting an investigation into the death, with the force saying in a statement that they believe the incident occurred in a “family environment” and that they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

A spokesman for the major crime squad said: “This is a tragic incident and our officers are working hard to build a picture of what happened.

“We have made an arrest in relation to this incident and are not seeking to identify anyone else in connection with our investigation at this stage. We have no reason to believe there is any risk to the public.”

“There is a significant police presence on Pyrcroft Road and this will continue over the coming days.

“We appreciate that the incident itself, as well as a significant police presence, will be concerning for residents and we would like to thank them for their co-operation in carrying out our investigation.”

There are no longer police outside the building, but officers can be seen in the reception area and in the ground floor corridor.
