Prince Harry’s wife, kids won’t join him on London trip

Prince Harry’s wife Meghan and their two children will not travel with him to London next week, but a visit elsewhere in the UK has not been ruled out, his spokesman said.

King Charles’ younger son Harry will travel to London and Birmingham next week for a series of charity events and events promoting the 2027 Invictus Games.

Meghan, seven-year-old Archie and five-year-old Lilibet were expected to travel with the prince, but the prince’s spokesman said they had now abandoned plans to travel to London.

The Telegraph newspaper reported that the decision was taken after his request for police protection was rejected.

But the spokesman added that the family had not ruled out traveling elsewhere in the UK, including Birmingham, where Harry will promote the 2027 Invictus Games.

Harry has repeatedly expressed his desire to bring his children to the United Kingdom, where they have not visited for several years, but said security concerns were complicating those plans.

“The Duke continues to explore every option available to ensure the visit proceeds safely and to give his children the opportunity to enjoy the UK,” his spokesman said in a statement earlier this week. he said.

The prince has long argued that security concerns put his family at risk when visiting Britain.

Last year, he lost his legal challenge against the government’s decision to remove the automatic police protection he was given after he left royal duties and moved to the United States with Meghan in 2020.

The planned visit had raised the possibility of a rare meeting between Archie and Lilibet and their grandfather King Charles, who has seen little of the children as relations between Harry and the royal family have been strained in recent years.

Archie and Lilibet were last seen seeing their grandfather by Queen Elizabeth II. They saw it in person during Elizabeth’s platinum anniversary celebrations in 2022.

Harry said in an interview with the BBC last year that he wanted a reconciliation with his family after years of public disagreements, including criticism of royal life in television interviews and his memoir Spare.

His trip next week also coincides with a closely watched court ruling in a privacy claim against the Daily Mail’s publisher, Associated Newspapers.

Harry is expected to attend events linked to the Invictus Games, the sports competition he founded for wounded and injured military veterans and which Birmingham will host in 2027.
