Cops investigate if cannibalism is linked to alleged murder of four-year-old boy in Wyong – as his mother is charged

It is being investigated whether cannibalism was a factor in the death of a 4-year-old child whose mother is accused of murder.

A 32-year-old woman visited Wyong Police Station on the NSW Central Coast at 4.40pm on Saturday.

Officers later carried out a welfare check at a unit in Byron Street where they discovered the dead child with serious injuries to his arm.

The mother was later charged with murder (domestic violence).

Police sources said: Sydney Morning Herald It was reported on Sunday that cannibalism was being investigated as a possible factor.

Inspector Chad Gillies described the scene as ‘extremely confronting’.

‘It has been confirmed that the child is injured. “I’m not going to speculate any further about what these injuries are,” he said at a news conference.

He said the only people in the unit were children and women.

Allegedly, the woman went to the police station and directed the police officers to the house.

Inspector Gillies said: ‘There was a domestic relationship with the child… The 32-year-old woman and the four-year-old child were living together in the unit.’

The identities of the woman and the boy cannot be determined for legal reasons.

He added that the 32-year-old woman was known to police.

Neighbors told reporters that the couple moved here a few months ago and that the boy was walking his dog on the street.

They said he appeared happy and talkative and there were no signs of cause for alarm.

Inspector Gillies said detectives would investigate the incident “methodically”.

“We’re trying to understand what happened, why it happened, and from my perspective, we owe it to that little boy to make sure we get the full circumstances and present them to the court in due course,” he said.

The woman did not appear in court for the bail hearing.

The matter will be brought to court again on September 1.
