Man arrested on suspicion of killing 13-year-old girl who went missing 31 years ago

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a 13-year-old girl, three decades after she disappeared.
Lindsay Rimer was 13 when she disappeared from Hebden Bridge in November 1994. He had left his home to buy a packet of cereal from the Spar supermarket in Crown Street.
She was initially believed to have escaped, but five months later, in April 1995, her body was found by two canal workers at Rawden Mill Lock on the Rochdale Canal, about a mile from the center of Hebden Bridge.
Detectives from West Yorkshire Police arrested a man in an unnamed UK prison on Monday morning, who was serving a sentence for other offences. The suspect will be interrogated on Monday and Tuesday. Police said the man is expected to be released on bail and returned to prison while investigations continue.
Officers also contacted a number of potential witnesses in the Hebden Bridge and wider Halifax area who were identified through the investigation.
Senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector James Entwistle said: “We are extremely determined to do everything we can to get justice for Lindsay and give her family the answers they still desperately need after all these years.
“The arrest we have made today comes as a result of our focus on progressing the investigation. We are keeping Lindsay’s family updated and whilst we appreciate the understandable public interest that today’s arrest will bring, we do not anticipate any immediate developments at this stage.
“More than 30 years after Lindsay was murdered, we believe there is someone out there with vital information that could help ease her family’s pain, and we urge them to do the right thing and tell us what they know.”
Anyone with further information is asked to contact police by calling 101, quoting Operation Posemill, or by sending a text or voicemail to 07707 147314.
