Farmers Stage Protest by Sitting in Canal for Irrigation Water

Kakinada: Farmers in Dr BR Ambedkar Konaseema district staged a protest by sitting on an irrigation sub-canal at Golakotivaripalem in Kothapeta mandal and demanded immediate release of water to save their crops and nurseries.
Farmers said severe water shortage has caused nurseries to dry up, raising fears of heavy crop losses. They claimed that although the issue was repeatedly brought to the attention of officials and political leaders, no action was taken.
Protesters accused the alliance government of failing to resolve long-standing irrigation problems. They also claimed that the mud removal works in the irrigation channels were only on paper and that no visible improvements had been made to ensure water flow.
Farmers complained that while governments changed, their problems remained the same. They appealed to the irrigation department to release water immediately and urged MLAs, MPs and ministers to intervene to protect their crops.
