Duchess of Edinburgh makes unexpected cameo appearance on The Archers

The Duchess of Edinburgh made an unexpected guest appearance on BBC Radio 4’s core programme. Archers.
Sophie, who claims to be a long-time fan, joined the fictional residents of Ambridge in Thursday’s episode.
His episode was secretly recorded at the BBC Mailbox in Birmingham in May.
In the behind-the-scenes photos, the Duchess was seen smiling as she stood in front of her script and microphone under the studio lights. He was joined by actors Tim Bentinck (David Archer), David Troughton (Tony Archer) and Susie Riddell (Tracy Horrobin).
In the episode, broadcast at 7pm on the show’s 75th anniversary, Sophie appeared as a surprise guest on the fictional Borchester Show and in real life as honorary president of Linking Environment and Farming (Leaf).
The show’s website hinted that “Nerves were frayed on the day of the Borchester Show and marked by a surprise guest.”

The Duchess follows in the footsteps of the Queen, who appeared in the series in 2011.

Sophie met the cast and crew before recording the episode, and at one point was filmed chatting to Charles Collingwood, who plays Brian Aldridge, with her hand over her mouth as a sign of either shock or surprise.
The Archers has been broadcast on BBC radio since 1951 and has been watched more than any other continuing drama series in the world, with over 20,000 episodes.
