Massive fire breaks out at car godown in Hyderabad’s Chaderghat, no casualties reported

A massive fire broke out at a second-hand car depot in Chaderghat on Friday evening, causing panic in the area. No casualties or injuries were reported at the time of this report.

According to Fire Control officials, a distress call was received around 4.20pm following which seven fire engines were sent to the scene. While firefighters are working to control the fire, operations continue.

The fire sent thick clouds of smoke into the sky, alarming residents and commuters on the busy street. A student taking an exam at a nearby private educational institution said the flames rose to the fourth floor of the building.

Preliminary investigation suggested that the fire may have started in second-hand cars or decorative material warehouses in the area and quickly spread to huts and other tin structures near the Musi river bed. The possibility of a fire starting from a garbage pile due to careless smoking is also being investigated. The fire department reported that investigations are continuing to determine the exact cause of the fire.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad traffic police have issued a warning. “Due to the fire accident at Musi River Basin behind Chaderghat Police Station (L&O), vehicular movement from Chaderghat Circle towards Chaderghat X Roads is currently slow,” police said. Traffic personnel were assigned to manage the incident on site.
