Elon Musk reveals surprising India connection on Nikhil Kamath’s podcast
In a meeting with Zerodha founder Nikhil Kamath, Musk revealed that one of his sons’ name was inspired by Nobel laureate Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar.
“One of my sons with him, his middle name is Sekhar, after Chandrasekhar,” Musk said in a conversation with investor and entrepreneur Nikhil Kamath on People by WTF.

Indian American astrophysicist Chandrasekhar won the 1983 Nobel Prize in Physics “for his theoretical studies of physical processes important to the structure and evolution of stars.”
When asked if Zilis spent time in India, Musk said his early life story is not widely known. “She was adopted as a baby and raised in Canada. I think her father was an exchange student at university or something like that. I’m not sure of the exact details, but one thing I don’t know…she was adopted,” he said. Musk and Zilis have four children; twins Strider and Azure, daughter Arcadia and son Seldon Lycurgus. Zilis serves as director of operations and special projects at Musk’s brain technology company Neuralink.
Musk speaks highly of Indian talent
Amid ongoing debates about immigration policies and the importance of attracting global talent, Musk also acknowledged the significant contributions of Indian talent to the United States. “I think America has benefited tremendously from talented Indians coming to America. I mean, America has benefited tremendously from talent coming from India,” he said.

While criticizing the Biden administration’s approach, Musk pointed out the necessity of balanced immigration policies. “I think there are different schools of thought. There’s no consensus, but under the Biden administration, it was basically a free-for-all and there were no border controls. Unless you had border controls. So under Biden, there was a huge amount of illegal immigration, and actually that also had kind of a negative electoral impact,” he said.
He added that open borders could allow even criminals to enter the United States. “If there’s a huge financial incentive to come to the US illegally and take advantage of all these government benefits, then you’re necessarily going to create a diffusion gradient for people to come to the US. It’s an incentive structure that obviously doesn’t make any sense. Like, you have to have border controls. It’s kind of ridiculous not to. Then that’s basically what the left wants to have: open borders. It doesn’t matter if someone knows what the situation is; they could be a criminal, it doesn’t matter,” Musk said.
