Tragedy as teen dies at Greater Manchester reservoir during heatwave | UK | News

An 18-year-old man has died in a reservoir in Greater Manchester, police said, as they warned of the dangers of entering open water. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said emergency services responded to the incident at Dovestone Reservoir in Oldham at around 7pm on Friday.
Police added that they found the 18-year-old boy unresponsive in the water and despite the efforts of medical professionals, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the scene remains and investigations are ongoing.
Detective Inspector Steven Horton, of GMP’s Oldham area, said: “We tragically recovered the body of an 18-year-old man from the water and are carrying out full investigations to establish the full circumstances.
“Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.
“I want to use this opportunity to remind the public of the dangers of open water. We strongly encourage people to stay safe and avoid entering large bodies of water, including reservoirs, rivers, canals or ponds.”
“Your safety is our priority. Please take care of yourself and enjoy the weather safely.”
This means the third heatwave of the year will continue into the weekend and into next week, with temperatures potentially
On Saturday, Wales and south-west England will see highs of 32 to 34 degrees, Northern Ireland temperatures could reach 25 degrees, while Scotland could see highs of 27 degrees.
Yellow and yellow heat health warnings issued by the UK Health Safety Agency (UKHSA) will also remain in force across much of England until Sunday.
Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster David Hayter said: “Central and southern England and Wales are expected to see temperatures above 30C for several more consecutive days.
“While temperatures are expected to drop below 30 degrees over the weekend, the focus of heat will gradually shift towards the western regions of England.
“This will also bring slightly cooler and cloudier conditions to the east coast areas than in recent days. It will also become windier in the southern areas, bringing breezy conditions, particularly along the coasts and headlands.”
