Huge fire breaks out near train station in Walthamstow as people urged to close windows | UK | News

Fire services are dealing with an incident after a railway embankment burned in Walthamstow. Twenty-five fire engines and 125 firefighters rushed to extinguish the blaze near Vallentin Road in Walthamstow.
London Fire Brigade was called to the scene near Vallentin Road and Shernall Street in north London at around 6.30pm on Sunday, July 12. The fire reportedly affected a house, several gardens and sheds, as well as a railway embankment. The fire service, in partnership with Waltham Forest Council, has established two local recreation centers for affected residents.
London Fire Brigade said in a statement: “The Brigade received the first of more than 100 calls at 1827 and Control Officers mobilized crews from Tottenham, Bethnal Green, Walthamstow, Chingford and surrounding fire stations to the scene.
“A 32-metre spiral staircase is also on standby and deployed as a water tower to help extinguish fires from above. The brigade’s drone team is also on scene, providing the Incident Commander with greater situational awareness.”
“The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.”
People living in the area were asked to keep their windows and doors closed.
The LFB added: “Due to road closures, motorists are advised to avoid the area, including Wood Street, Shernhall Street and surrounding roads. The Weaver Overground line is partially closed. Transport for London service updates can be found here.”
