UK weather: the ongoing heatwave delivers exceptional hours of sunshine

The peak of this year’s third heat wave was on Thursday, July 9, and Friday, July 10, when temperatures reached 35°C. Although temperatures have dropped slightly since then, parts of the UK have still persistently reached 30C.
On Tuesday, the UK hit temperatures of 30C or higher for 10 consecutive days in some areas. Teddington, Richmond upon Thames, Kew Gardens and London’s Heathrow are among the areas where temperatures exceeded 30 degrees.
The very pronounced east-to-northeast wind has pushed the highest temperatures towards the west in recent days. However, as the wind eases, the heat will spread over a wider area and temperatures are expected to rise further this week.
The heatwave threshold is expected to be met again in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Northern England.
