Shania Twain reveals how she and new husband ‘found each other’ through navigating betrayal after their former spouses had an affair together

It’s fair to say that her husband’s infidelity didn’t affect her much.

But today Shania Twain revealed that she overcame the collapse of her first marriage by falling in love with the man who was having an affair with his wife’s husband.

The singer said she and Frederic Thiebaud ‘found each other’ while trying to come to terms with their partners’ betrayal.

Twain, 60, who split from record producer husband Robert ‘Mutt’ Lange in 2008, initially refused to believe there was anything going on between her and her best friend and assistant Marie-Anne Thiebaud.

Speaking to Desert Island Discs, it is stated that the person who helped Marie-Anne face the truth was her husband “Fred”, a Swiss-born Nestle executive.

Mrs Twain said: ‘Fred takes off his blinders and tells me what’s going on. I don’t believe him and I tell him that I think he’s delusional, that he’s delusional. apparently [the affair] It would never end. So Fred and I are devastated and at some point we have to let it all go.’

She added: ‘And that’s when we found each other and it was really great to say there was no hope and to know what a beautiful person she was.’ Ms. Twain divorced Lange in 2010 and married Thiebaud a year later.

This new success is doubly gratifying because Twain was unable to sing for a decade after being diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2003.

He recalled rediscovering his voice during throat surgery that required him to stay awake.

He said: ‘I have open throat surgery. They open your neck, you are awake, and they put a big handcuff around your neck.

‘They open it and push your larynx to the side, look at the nerve and you make the sound again. Sing for me! That’s what I had to do. ‘I had to sing.’
