Sonam Wangchuk hunger strike LIVE: CJP continues overnight protests; Safdarjung urges treatment for Wangchuk

Safdarjung Hospital: Wangchuk needs urgent treatment, family refuses treatment despite counseling
Activist Sonam Wangchuk, who was on a hunger strike for 21 days, showed signs of dehydration and urgently needed fluid and electrolyte therapy to prevent serious complications, although she and her family refused the recommended treatment despite receiving repeated counseling, Safdarjung Hospital officials said on Saturday (July 18).
In a statement released around 9 p.m., the hospital said Mr. Wangchuk was conscious and hemodynamically stable, and his pulse, blood pressure and oxygen saturation were now within normal limits.
However, prolonged fasting resulted in clinical signs of dehydration, making emergency oral or intravenous fluid and electrolyte therapy medically necessary.
