Hyderabad: Hyderabad police on Wednesday arrested two brothers for allegedly stealing 1,028 kg of gold ornaments from a jewelery export firm in Banjara Hills and recovered the entire stolen goods.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Task Force) Gaikwad Vaibhav Raghunath said the case was solved using CCTV footage and technical evidence.

The accused was identified as 29-year-old Sonkamble Harish, a sales manager at Gurukrupa Exports Pvt. Ltd. and his brother Sonkamble Akash, 25, works as an office attendant in an IT company.

Police said Harish, who was under financial distress, planned the theft and later involved his brother in the incident.

According to police, Harish first attempted the theft on July 16 but abandoned the plan. Allegedly, the next day, he cut off the electricity, cut the iron rods, entered the office through the bathroom ventilation opening and entered the closet.

As an employee, he was familiar with the office layout and CCTV camera locations, police said, adding that the brothers took seven gold necklaces and seven pairs of earrings weighing 1,028 kg.

Police said Harish returned to work after the incident and participated in the initial investigation, raising no suspicion.
