Fire and disaster response services will be strengthened for future needs: Priyank Kharge

Mr. Kharge directed officials to prepare a comprehensive and long-term roadmap for the department, focusing on modern technology, infrastructure, human resources, training and emergency response capabilities in line with future needs.

He promised that the vacant positions in the ministry will be filled gradually and that the government will take the necessary steps to establish new fire stations when necessary. He also said the government would positively consider proposals regarding promotions, service benefits and welfare measures for Fire and Emergency Services personnel.

Officials informed the Minister that the Ministry currently operates 219 fire stations, six fire control units and a fire training academy, modern fire fighting vehicles and rescue equipment, Agni-2 digital service platform and five SDRF companies across Karnataka.

They also briefed him on plans to build new fire stations, procure additional vehicles and modernize the department.

The minister also instructed officials to prepare a comprehensive plan for more effective use of internal security officers in public safety and emergency response. He directed them to submit proposals to the government to increase the service benefits and wages of the Home Guard.

Considering the increasing number of accidents due to LPG leaks, Mr. Kharge suggested providing special technical training for firefighters. He asked the authorities to find funds for such training through corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives of LPG supply companies or other financing mechanisms.
