Woman dies after head-on collision with man fleeing alleged DV attack
A Tasmanian woman has died days after a horrific head-on collision with a man who was allegedly fleeing a domestic violence-related stabbing.
The 39-year-old woman was driving north along the West Tamar Highway near Legana when she collided head-on with a blue Skoda vehicle on Friday afternoon.
Investigators said the man driving the Skoda is believed to have fled the scene of the stabbing.
“Police believe the man is the perpetrator of a recent serious injury incident in Exeter in which a woman he knew suffered serious stab wounds,” police said.
The man died at the scene.
The 39-year-old woman, from Winkleigh in the north of the state, was taken to hospital.
Police said the woman died Sunday evening.
Tasmania Police said the woman was driving her blue Nissan Navara northbound along the West Tamar Highway on Friday afternoon when a blue Skoda crashed head-on into her vehicle as it passed Legana.
“Police believe the man is the perpetrator of a recent serious injury incident in Exeter in which a woman he knew suffered serious stab wounds,” police said.
It was learned that the condition of the woman who was allegedly stabbed by the man was serious but stable.
“Our thoughts are with the families of both women and everyone affected by these events,” police said.
A report is being prepared for the coroner.
