According to Russia’s state news agency RIA and its scientific sources, the Krashennikov Volidant on Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula exploded for the first time in about 600 years, an event that could be connected to the powerful earthquake that hit Russia Far East last week.

“This points to the first explosion of historically confirmed in six centuries, Olga said Olga Girina, the President of Kamchatka Volcanic Explosion Intervention Team, as quoted by RIA.

Girina said the explosion may be associated with the 7.5 earthquake that triggered tsunami warnings in remote areas, including the French Polynesia and Chile. The earthquake also watched the explosion of Klyuchevskoy, the most active volcano in the region.

Girina, broadcasted on the telegraph channel of the Volcanology and Seismology Institute, added that the last known lava flow of Krashennikov was around 1463 with a 40 -year error margin and the explosion has not been documented since then.

Following the last explosion, for the emergencies in Russia, the Ministry of Kamchatka reported a ash feather rising up to 6,000 meters (3.7 miles). The volcano itself stands at a height of 1,856 meters.

“The ash cloud is dragged into the Pacific Ocean towards the east and does not pose any threat to populated areas right now,” he said.

According to the Ministry, an orange aviation warning was given to the explosion and the surrounding air traffic.
